October 14th
BROOKLYN, New York – Their Majesties King Harald
V and Queen Sonja of Norway will visit New York on October 13–16.
Their Majesties’ program in New York will include their attendance
at the American Scandinavian Foundation’s annual gala dinner, a business
seminar and a visit to the Norwegian Christian Home and Health Center in
Brooklyn. The Center is located at 1270 – 67th Street in Brooklyn.
His Majesty King Harald was born 21 February 1937 in his parents’
home, the country estate of Skaugum near Oslo, the only son of Crown Prince
Olav (later King Olav V) and Crown Princess Märtha. He is the first
prince born in Norway for 567 years. Her Majesty Queen Sonja became Norway’s
first queen for 53 years on 17 January 1991. She is patron or president
of a large number of organizations and institutions and participates actively
in meetings and conferences in the palace and elsewhere.
The royal visit to the Norwegian Christian Home and Health Center will give
the King and Queen an opportunity to tour the newly constructed skilled
nursing facility, which will begin operations on November 1st.
Among those welcoming the royal couple will be chairman of the board George
Jensen, executive director Michael Doherty and members of the Center’s
Board of Directors.
The royal visit to the Norwegian Christian Home and Health Center is the
first in a series of celebrations to commemorate the completion of the Center’s
much anticipated construction project, concluding with the Grand Opening
in June of next year, which will be their
100-year anniversary.
The visit is open to accredited media representatives.
