“Norwegians In New York”
Exhibit Sets Grand Opening
For May 31st At Norwegian
Christian Home In Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, New York – Norwegians in New York, Builders of City, Community and Culture, a heritage exhibit originally prepared for the 175th anniversary of Norwegian immigration to the United States, and presented at Ellis Island in the year 2000, will now occupy a permanent home in Heritage Hall at the Norwegian Christian Home and Health Center in Brooklyn. The grand opening will be celebrated on Saturday, May 31, at 1:00 p.m.
Speaking for the Norwegian Immigration Association (NIA), sponsor of the exhibit and a nonprofit organization of Americans with Norwegian roots, George A. Jensen said that the celebration is open to all members of the association. “We will be honored with the presence of His Excellency Knut Vollebaek, Ambassador of Norway to the United States, and the Honorable Atle Leikvoll, Consul General of Norway in NY. Mr. Leikvoll will deliver a greeting and Ambassador Vollebaek will be the featured speaker.”
Jensen, a member of the executive council of the NIA, said that the King and Queen of Norway were present when the exhibit was unveiled at Ellis Island, and after some months in that location, it was moved to a museum in Hamar, Norway. Now it will be permanently housed at the Norwegian Christian Home and Health Center in Brooklyn. “This is a dynamic exhibit of photos, artifacts and displays that will change from time to time,” added Jensen, and following the grand opening events, it will be open to the general public.”
Admission to the event, which includes a luncheon, remarks by distinguished speakers, musical entertainment by popular Norwegian singer Hanne Krogh, pianist Morten Gunnar Larsen, a performance by Rolf Stang and a choir of Norwegian-American voices, and a tour of the exhibit, is free to paid-up members of the Norwegian Immigration Association. Membership dues are $25/year for individuals or $40/year for families. Donors contribute additional sums.
